Author Guidelines

Arts & Aesthetics invites submissions from scholars, artists, and professionals exploring the diverse and dynamic fields of art, aesthetics, and cultural theory. Our journal seeks to engage with both contemporary and classical discussions on visual culture, aesthetic philosophy, design, and related areas, encouraging critical thought and interdisciplinary dialogue. Below are the guidelines for authors wishing to submit to our journal.

Scope of the Journal

We welcome original research articles, theoretical papers, critical essays, and creative contributions that engage with the following themes:

  • Art history and theory, both classical and contemporary
  • Aesthetic philosophy and cultural criticism
  • Visual culture, design, and architecture theory
  • Digital arts, media studies, and the impact of technology on art
  • Interdisciplinary perspectives on art, culture, and aesthetics

Submissions should offer innovative perspectives, contribute to scholarly discussions, and advance the understanding of the role of art and aesthetics in contemporary society. Arts & Aesthetics values the integration of diverse viewpoints, especially those from global and underrepresented perspectives, and we encourage interdisciplinary research that explores the intersection of the arts with other fields such as philosophy, sociology, psychology, and technology.

 Submission Types

We accept the following types of submissions:

  • Research Articles: These should be original, empirical studies or theoretical papers offering new insights into the field of art and aesthetics. Articles should be between 6,000 and 8,000 words, including references, and present clear, coherent arguments.
  • Critical Essays: These essays can offer critical reflections on established theories, ongoing debates, or key figures in the field of arts and aesthetics. Essays should be between 4,000 and 6,000 words.
  • Book Reviews: Book reviews should engage critically with recent publications in the field of art, aesthetics, or cultural studies. Reviews should be between 1,000 and 2,000 words.
  • Creative Contributions: Arts & Aesthetics encourages the submission of innovative artistic works, including visual art, multimedia, or digital art projects. These contributions should be accompanied by an explanatory text of no more than 1,000 words that contextualizes the work and its relation to aesthetic theory or cultural discussions.

 Manuscript Preparation

To ensure a smooth submission process, please follow these formatting guidelines carefully:

  • Manuscript Format: All manuscripts should be submitted as Microsoft Word documents (.doc or .docx) or LaTeX files. Manuscripts should be double-spaced, with 1-inch margins on all sides and a standard 12-point font (preferably Times New Roman).
  • Title Page: The title page should include the manuscript title, a brief author biography (50-100 words), and full contact information for the corresponding author.
  • Abstract: All manuscripts must include an abstract of no more than 250 words. The abstract should concisely summarize the main objectives, methods, findings (if applicable), and conclusions of the paper. Avoid citations and jargon in the abstract.
  • Keywords: Authors should provide 4-6 keywords that accurately describe the content of the paper.
  • Body of the Manuscript: The body of the manuscript should be divided into clearly marked sections (e.g., Introduction, Literature Review, Methodology, Analysis, Conclusion). Authors should ensure clarity and coherence, following a logical structure throughout the paper.
  • References: references should be formatted according to IEEE style. All citations in the text must be included in the reference list at the end of the manuscript. In-text citations should be made using numerical citations in square brackets, e.g., [1], corresponding to the appropriate entry in the reference list.
  • Figures and Tables: Figures and tables should be numbered sequentially (e.g., Figure 1, Table 1). Each should be accompanied by a descriptive caption. Images should be submitted in high-resolution (at least 300 dpi) and in appropriate formats (e.g., JPEG, PNG, TIFF).

Peer Review Process

All submissions will undergo a double-blind peer review process. This means that both the authors and reviewers will remain anonymous throughout the review process to ensure impartiality and fairness.

  • Initial Screening: Upon submission, the editorial team will conduct an initial screening of the manuscript to assess its relevance to the journal’s scope and adherence to submission guidelines.
  • Peer Review: If the manuscript passes the initial screening, it will be sent to two independent reviewers with expertise in the field. Reviewers will assess the manuscript’s originality, theoretical framework, methodological rigor (if applicable), and overall contribution to the field.
  • Revision Process: Authors may be asked to revise their manuscripts based on reviewers’ feedback. Manuscripts may undergo multiple rounds of revision before a final decision is made. Authors are encouraged to respond to reviewer comments thoroughly and promptly.

 Ethical Considerations

Arts & Aesthetics adheres to the highest standards of scholarly integrity. Authors should ensure that their work is original and not under review elsewhere. All sources and references should be properly cited to avoid any form of plagiarism. In cases of research involving human subjects, authors must ensure that ethical guidelines were followed, and consent was obtained where applicable.

  • Conflict of Interest: Authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest that may arise from their research, including financial, professional, or personal relationships that could influence the content of the manuscript.
  • Copyright: Authors should ensure that they have the necessary permissions for any copyrighted materials used in their manuscript, such as images, figures, and quotes.
